I think more people will use social media day to day. I think business will use it more to market. And I think people will use it more to market themselves. I think it will become more popular to use the TV as a part of social media. Perhaps interactive TV will become a new technology. Visual CV is a great site, I never heard of it before, and many people I know never have; it could really catch on, and become more popular.

Social media causing social change
Of course Social media can bring about real social change! I think it can bring more change than ever before. Just because you meet people threw social networking doesn’t mean you can’t get to know them personally. Dating sites were created and are effective for the same reason. It is harder to find similar people with a phone book, and walking around talking to random people. With social networking sites you can post things about yourself, and people like you will approach you. You can read other peoples sites and approach them. Or an organization will create a site that anyone and everyone who likes that organization can communicate with each other. I think people who don’t think social media helps social change, really are unfamiliar with social media, and really haven’t given it a chance or done their research. There are thousands, probably billions of people all working together with social media and making social change everyday.

Social Media Wrecking the Quality of News
I believe Social Media has decreased the quality of news and information. Please watch this video it is very informative of this issue. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=op9vugimuko . It explains that there are 3 different kinds of news: “Right to know, Need to know, and Want to know. Right to know news, is a public information citizen have legal access to, such as health inspection records. Need to know news, is pertinent news that impacts the lives of the public, such as war updates. Want to know news, is information of interest with little to no relevance or importance to the public, such as celebrity gossip.” Professional news journalists, follow standards of ethics. These standards state that “only an overriding public need can justify intrusion into anyone’s privacy.” This standard is constantly swept aside in social media. People are constantly spreading gossip. Most of what I see on the internet is not real news, but only opinions and gossip. I am a newspaper fan. I like to know local news, and what is effecting me in my town. I am not interested in celebrities and gossip.

Blog Posting #1 Assignment- Perception of Social Media
I strongly believe that social media is not a fad. A fad is “something that is embraced very enthusiastically for a short time, especially by many people” (Encarta Dictionary). Social media is people using “...digital media for networking, socializing and information gathering.” There is an excellent article on this website, http://copybrighter.com/history-of-social-media, which shares the history of social media. It explains that social media has been around for over 30 years, and began with the telephone. This proves that social media is not a fad, nor is it a huge shift like the Industrial Revolution. Although social media is at times great, I believe it has made huge negative impacts. “Studies found that middle school, high school and college students who checked Facebook at least once during a 15-minute study period achieved lower grades”( http://www.apa.org/news/press/releases/2011/08/social-kids.aspx) Teens who use Facebook more often show more narcissistic tendencies while young adults who have a strong Facebook presence display more signs of other psychological disorders, including antisocial behaviours, mania and aggressive tendencies.” (http://www.tgdaily.com/networking-features/57746-is-social-media-good-or-bad-for-kids) “Social networking sites make cyber bullying, a type of bullying that occurs online, easier and more public than bullying through other online activities such as email and instant messaging. A 2009 study found that 17.3% of middle school students have been victims of cyber bullying. Victims often experience a drop in grades, decreased self-esteem and other symptoms of depression.”( http://socialnetworking.procon.org/) There are many other negative impacts social media has created, which is why I don’t think it will be or is a huge shift like the Industrial Revolution. On the other hand, social media is really great; it lets us communicate with loved ones, and friends. It gives us instant revues, opinions, and facts on almost anything you can imagine. “59% of students with access to the Internet report that they use social networking sites to discuss educational topics including career and college planning, and 50% use the sites to talk about school assignments. Some parents and teachers say that using these sites helps students improve their reading, writing, and conflict resolution skills, learn to express themselves more clearly, and meet new and different kinds of students from around the world.” (http://socialnetworking.procon.org/) Social media may become, more and more useful to people, but I also think it will become more and more harmful to people.
